Spirit

Envisions the body as a poetic anthology woven with the essence of bones, blood, and flesh; traversing the depths from skin to blood, flesh to bone, and finally, the inner spirit. Transcending external matter, the viewer peruses this book until the last page, its blankness akin to a question, inviting contemplation and questioning what awaits beneath the spirit. This interactive exploration of the soul assists the observer in reflecting upon the existence of life, merging with the profundity of the inner self, resonating with the subtle essence of one’s own existence.

Working process

2021, 25’’x 25’’x 15’’, Glazed Ceramic, interactive work
Collaboration with Lily Wang

The connection between humans and nature is an inseparable coexistence made up of realms both seen and unseen. This artwork delves into the secret "spirits" of the natural world, creating a portal of interactivity in between. This ceramic piece is a collaborative creation, forged within a forest dwelling, implying a connection with nature; its organic shapes and colors, inspired by ancient artifacts of human history such as cave paintings and clay idols, exude an essence both wild and organic. It resembles a living entity growing uninterrupted in the forest, linking humanity with a primal force of nature.

Universe is Like an Infinite Dream

2021, 2:58mins video with sound, found footage, Premiere, video collage

This video installation delves into the cyclical ritual of life and death; a life born one moment and a life ended in parallel. Such transformations, however, are only perceivable during our individual existence. After death, we are incapable of discerning the life we once knew, as if the universe is a grand dream in which we are born only to awaken in death. Inspired by the Buddhist cosmology of "the universe is just a thought," the artwork intimates a connection between the individual and the world.

The installation is divided into four sections—microorganisms, plants, animals, and humans. Each section is composed of different video footage, forming a tableau-like structure. The appearance, disappearance, and complete vanishing of these tableaus synchronize with the movement of stars illuminating a small sculpture on the opposite side, symbolizing the continuous cycle of life. Through this visual installation, viewers are invited to contemplate our inseparable connection to the universe as well as the ephemeral nature of existence against the grand backdrop of the cosmos.

Life Walk Through Me

2022, 11’’x17’’(each), wood panel relief print

This set of seven relief prints represents both the seven days of a week and an allegorical microcycle about life, death and rebirth; an intricate process in which each organism weaves a singular, irreplaceable narrative. When viewed from a broader perspective, however, life adheres not to an eternal cycle, but a finite sequence. This artwork invites viewers to contemplate and meditate upon the present and its swift pace. Do we truly have time to grasp the essence of life?
